THIS GUIDE HAS BEEN PERFECTED TO MY BEST KNOWLEDGE. IT MAY NOT BE PERFECT FOR BEGINERS JUST YET. IF YOU SPOT AN ERROR PLEASE EITHER PM ME OR REPLY WITH THE ERROR IN THIS THREAD.

Firstly, it is important to note that this guide has been put together by me, EViS, with the aid of research and development also conducted by mbb and bigflause. I do not take credit for everything described here. I hope this to be an ultimate guide on how to get MediaPortal and/or TV Server working in conjunction with MDAPI, Fenrir, and Yankse.

1 ) If you havent done so already, install MediaPortal and/or TV Server with MDAPI using the installation procedures outlined in the MDAPI In MediaPortal and/or TV Server Guide.

2 ) You should not continue following this guide unless you already have a working MediaPortal and/or TV Server setup on which you can view FTA channels.

3 ) the following files

-Fenrir.dll
-Yankse.dll
-Nagrakey.txt
- .bin: Can be found at VDR Bluox. Different .bin files decrypt different encryptions (i.e. Rom7.bin decrypts Nagra1 used by UK cable providers).

4 ) If you are using MediaPortal without TV Server, the above files must be placed into the MediaPortal\MDPlugins directory. If you are using MediaPortal with TV Server the above files must be placed into the TV Server\MDPlugins directory in the directory structure outlined below.

MediaPortal/TV Server MDPlugins:

- Nagra (create new folder with this name)
- Fenrir.dll
- Yankse.dll
- fenrir.ini
- yankse.ini

MediaPortal/TV Server Nagra:

- All necessary .bin's (i.e. Rom7.bin decrypts Nagra1 used by UK cable providers)
- NagraKey.txt (Must contain your providers keys)

5 ) If you are using MediaPortal with TV Server you will need to restart the TV Service at this point for MDAPI to load the new plugins (Fenrir & Yankse). See the MDAPI In MediaPortal and/or TV Server Guide for details on how to do this if you are unsure.

6 ) Right click on the MDAPI icon that should be visible in the system tray and set both Fenrir and Yankse to Active. If you are running Windows Vista and cannot see the MDAPI icon in the system tray, please refer to the MediaPortal, TV Server & MDAPI FAQ.

7 ) You should now be able to receive FTA as well as non-FTA channels. You can check the status of Fenrir and Yankse by launching MediaPortal and selecting a channel, right click on the MDAPI icon in the system tray and open log windows for both Fenrir and Yankse. Fenrir and Yankse log windows should be showing current keys for your DVB-C provider. Check to see whether Fenrir is decrypting the keys of non-FTA channels and Yankse is reading them (flashing *). If you are still unable to view non-FTA channels or receiving error messages in the log window, refer to Troubleshooting below. If neither of those steps help and you have read/followed this guide and read the FAQ feel free to post your question(s)/problem(s) in the forum!

Troubleshooting ) It is as of yet unknown why the following two steps are needed on some systems and not others. However if Yankse/Fenrir are not logging keys or are displaying errors please try one of two or both steps described below..

- Optional Step One: If you are using MediaPortal without TV Server, move the Nagra folder (and its content) into the MediaPortal root directory. If you are using MediaPortal with TV Server, move the Nagra folder (and its content) into the TV Server root directory.

- Optional Step Two: A possible issue with MediaPortal and/or TV Server and Fenrir is that the Nagra.key file is written to the root MediaPortal/TV Server directory as opposed to the MDPlugins directory where Yankse is and looks for the Nagra.key file to read current provider keys.

In order to resolve this issue the fenrir.ini file written to c:\ (note: This is not the fenrir.ini in the MDPlugins directory but the one written to the root of c:\ once MediaPortal is tuned into a channel) needs to be edited with the following addition at the bottom in order to change the directory where the Nagra.key file is written.

Fenrir.ini Addition If Using MediaPortal without TV Server:

Code:
[path]
key=<path_to_mediaportal>\MDPlugins\Nagra.key

Fenrir.ini Addition If Using MediaPortal with TV Server:

Code:
[path]
key=<path_to_tv_server>\MDPlugins\Nagra.key
